Adding a custom date field on Shopify cart page for a Melbourne based christening wear online shop.

Our Shopify customer wanted a custom field added to the Shopify website, in order for them to receive the date of the occasion simply they wanted to make sure that they could deliver the goods on time for the occasion.

Solutions were as follows,

1. We added a date picker and a label to the cart page form.
2. Instead of the submit button, we create a javascript API post request to cart update the javascript file to save the picked date as an attribute.
3. Made sure that all customers landed on the cart page before checkout.
4. Added order notification to staff email template, the saved date attribute form the cart

Now every time they received an order, the staff will get the date of occasion via the shopify notification email.
